Vajrasattva Yab-Yum
- Embodiment of Purifying Radiance in Sacred Union
With a luminous white body, he appears in luminous union with his consort — a sacred form representing the inseparable union of method and wisdom.
Through the recitation of his hundred-syllable mantra with deep devotion, obscurations and karmic imprints are purified, revealing the innate luminous wisdom present in all beings.

The radiance of Vajrasattva are sometimes likened to “snow mountains gleaming in sunlight” or to “crystal.” Reflecting this imagery, this thangka departs from the conventional palette, warm tones such as red or orange are entirely absent. The body of the deity is rendered in pure white, while nearly all other elements are painted in cool tones — various shades of azurite and malachite pigments — highlighted with pure gold.
In this depiction, Vajrasattva appears in an uncommon form, crossing both hands at his chest to embrace his consort, descending through an indigo-hued sky. The cloud upon which he sits gradually fades toward the rear, creating a sense of depth. The nimbus, shaded in white gradation, is adorned with a pair of rainbows along with fine, elongated gold lines, giving it a transparent and pure atmosphere.
