Thangka of Avalokiteśvara, the Buddha of compassion depicted in a standing
posture.
This vertically long Thangka is painted on silk canvas and in a style similar
to the Japanese traditional painting with simple ocher colored back ground.
In this Thangka, a unique technique called "Kiri-kane" is used.
Kiri-kane is an ancient Japanese decorative technique which employs gold
leaf cut into thin stripes or pieces to create fine lines and patterns
to adorn the painted area.
